The government’s approval rating has increased significantly following the election, according to a recent survey by Verité Research. In July 2024, only 24% of people supported the government, but by February 2025, this number had jumped to 62%. At the same time, disapproval dropped from 60% to just 16%.

For the first time since the economic crisis, more than half of Sri Lankans (55%) feel that the economy is improving. This is a major shift from July 2024, when only 30% thought things were getting better. However, 47% of people still believe the economy is in poor condition, though this is an improvement from the 71% who felt that way before.
When asked if the economy was getting worse, only 14% of people agreed, compared to 65% in the previous survey. Similarly, more people now rate the economy as “good” or “excellent” (35%), up from 28% last year.
How the Survey Was Done
This poll was conducted by Verité Research in partnership with Vanguard Survey (Pvt) Ltd. A total of 1,050 adults from different households across the country were surveyed between January 31 and February 5, 2025. The survey has a margin of error of ±3.0%, meaning the results are highly reliable.
These findings suggest that the government has gained public trust, and more people are hopeful about Sri Lanka’s economic future. However, challenges remain, as nearly half the population still views the economy negatively.
