The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) has requested the Minister of Health and the Director-General of Health Services to conduct an investigation into a racket of obtaining Rs. 5,000 to get the second dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine from some parties.
The Secretary of the Association said that the association had recently launched two hotlines to inform the public about the problems that arise during the anti-Covid campaign in the country and that complaints are being received through those two telephone numbers regarding a number of fraudulent activities being carried out regarding the anti-Covid program. Dr Fernando said that an institution had sent an email to its members informing them that it would charge Rs. 5,000 to administer the second dose of AstraZeneca vaccine and that the Government Medical Officers’ Association had received a copy of the email.
GMOA Secretary points out that the team, including the head of the Epidemiology Unit, has full control over the vaccination program and that an immediate investigation should be carried out into these two fraudulent programs and the fraudsters should be exposed to the country.
The Association also requests the Ministry of Health to transfer the vaccination program to a community medicine specialist and appoint a team of specialists to regulate the vaccination program as a large number of complaints are being received about it.
