Geneva resolution vote tomorrow

The vote on Human rights resolution brought by Britain against Sri Lanka for the 46th session of the UN Human Rights Council will be taken up tomorrow (Monday). The sources said as the vote on the Resolution has been scheduled for Monday evening, it could extend to Tuesday (23) morning if the last-minute processes get delayed.

The resolution is being brought by Britain, Germany, Canada, Northern Macedonia, Montenegro and Malawi, but Sri Lanka has already opposed and rejected the resolution, which will be put to a vote at the UNHRC.

There are 47 member states of the UNHRC and out of them 24 countries support will be needed to defeat the resolution tabled against Sri Lanka. Currently, 20 countries, including China, Russia, the Philippines, Pakistan, Nepal and Bangladesh, will support Sri Lanka, sources said.
