EC is ready for yet another mock poll

Election Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya says that 15 000 new staffers will have to be recruited to the EC ahead of the upcoming elections. Deshapriya was speaking at the press conference held in Ambalangoda today (07) after a mock poll was held ahead of the upcoming General elections. 

The Commissioner noted that in addition to the health care staff, the above personnel were required to carry out election-related work and therefore some form of remuneration will have to be paid to the new recruits.

Deshapriya said that a General election often costs close to an estimated Rs. 7 Billion but however it is likely to increase up to Rs. 9 Billion this time around. 

Following the mock polls held today at the Ambalangoda Vilegoda Dhammayukthikarama Temple, Deshpriya said the mock poll was successful. He said in the coming days two more mock polls will be held in an Estate area and a rural village in order to ensure preparedness to hold the General election according to health guidelines. 

The Commissioner of Elections added that the forthcoming General Elections will be held in accordance with the health and hygiene measures as the coronavirus virus has not completely eradicated from the country.
