Fuel shortage in Kandy as closure of main supply routes at Kadugannawa

Closure of the main supply routes to the hill capital has created a fuel shortage in Kandy sources said. The two main routes that provide essential services to Kandy, the Kandyan Railway and the Colombo Kandy Road will cause many problems in transporting fuel to the Panideniya fuel depot.

Fuel station inspectors say the shortage is due to the breakdown of two major roads that supply essential services to the city.

The Panideniya fuel depot supplies fuel to petrol stations in Matale and Mahiyanganaya in Kandy and the main fuel supply to the depot is by rail. General Manager of the Railways Dhammika Wijesundera said that the railway line will be restored next Monday.

They also say that despite the disruptions in the transportation of fuel, the distribution of fuel is still being done by the Penideniya storage terminal.

They also stated that 33000 liter fuel transport bowsers are being used to transport fuel to Kandy via the Kurunegala road to provide fuel to the people without any shortage.
