Four times higher cost for fuel transport despite railway offers cheapest rate!

It has been revealed before the COPE Committee that met in the first session of the 9th Parliament that four times as much money has been spent on transportation despite the establishment of a vialble and safe transportation system with public liability to transport petroleum to the relevant destinations.

Since the railway is the most safest and economical method of transportaion of fuel , railway authorities have been requesting for fuel transportaion at a rate of 3.85 per Kilometer for a long time.

However, the COPE Committee has revealed that it costs 12.95 rupees per kilometer to transport fuel by bowsers.

The COPE Committee conducted its investigation in January 2021 and found that by January 2020, only 20% of fuel transport was done by train.

The railway authorities had pointed out that if the fuel transport was done through the railway system, the revenue from it could significantly reduce the annual economic loss to the railways.
