Former MP Sivajilingam arrested over Thileepan memorial

Former MP MK Sivajilingam was arrested by the Kopay police this morning. A police source told Lankasara that Sivajilingam was arrested for questioning in connection with organizing and attending a ceremony to commemorate an LTTE member.

 This week marks the 33rd death Anniversary of Thileepan, an LTTE member who went on a hunger strike in 1987. He was a political wing leader of the LTTE. The MP has been accused of organizaing and attending a ceramony commemorating his death.

Sivajilingam has also been questioned by the police earlier regarding the commemoration of the slain LTTE cadres. Accordingly, he has been arrested and is expected to be questioned, the Police source said.
