The Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court granted bail to Supun S. Pathirage, the former chairman of the Central Environment Authority, who had been arrested by officials from the Bribery Commission.
Pathirage was taken into custody on charges of attempting to receive a bribe amounting to one crore rupees for facilitating an environmental report for a project.
The court approved Pathira’s release on bail under the conditions of providing two sureties, one in the form of Rs 25,000 in cash, and the other worth Rs 25 lakh each. However, the other two individuals implicated in the same incident have been remanded until the 24th pending further investigation.
The current chairman of the Central Environment Authority was suspended ealier amidst the ongoing legal proceedings.
