Fishermen are allowed to engage in their job near Taladi Bridge in Mannar!

The Army has given permission after 43 years to the Mannar fishermen to fish under the Taladi Bridge in Mannar and its surrounding area as of yesterday (1).

Because of the ethnic conflict, fishing activities around the Taladi Bridge and its surrounding area were banned 43 years ago by the authorities for the safety of the Tal Adi Army Camp and for the safety of the road and the bridge.

The small-time fishermen of Mannar have been engaged in fishing in and around the bridge and its surrounding sea since the past, and as soon as they received permission, they started their occupation immediately.

Small-scale fishermen in Mannar’s Nagathalthivu, Periya Navakkulam, Manthi, and Thirukkadeeswaram provinces have been given permission by the army not only to engage in fishing activities near the Tal Adi bridge but also to moor boats on the seashore around the bridge.

Army officers of Mannar came near the bridge to meet the fishermen of Mannar and congratulated them

TNA Mannar District Member of Parliament Charles Nirmalanad and Mannar Fishermen’s Association leaders also joined the occasion.
