First COPE Committee meeting on Sep 22

The Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) of the 9th Parliament is set to have its first meeting on September 22. 

The first meeting of the Committee on Public Accounts (COPA) will take place on September 23 the Parliament media unit said.

When the committees meet for the first time, the members are to elect a Chairman of the respective committee. Both the Committees comprises 22 members.

The duty of the Committee on Public Enterprises is to examine the accounts of the Public Corporations and of any business undertaking vested in the Government. The duty of the Committee on Public Accounts meanwhile is to examine the accounts showing the appropriation of the sums granted by Parliament to meet the public expenditure.

The Committee on Public Petitions of the 9th Parliament of Sri Lanka will meet for the first time on September 24.
