Fire Threatens Victoria Dam as Blaze Spreads Near Mount Mary

A fire that broke out at Mount Mary has posed a serious threat to the nearby Victoria Dam. Since yesterday morning (02), the dam staff, Haguranketha Police, and local residents have been tirelessly working to extinguish the flames.

As of 10:00 pm, the fire had approached a distance of 500 meters from the dam.

Wasantha Ehelapitiya, the engineer in charge of the Victoria Dam, reported that the fire, which originated on the western slope, rapidly spread to the top of the hill and began encroaching towards the dam.

Tragically, the blaze has already destroyed over 100 acres of land. Efforts to contain the fire and protect the dam continue amid the challenging situation.
