Expressing views to social media for public servants restricted !

Ministry of Public Administration, Home Affairs has issued a circular prohibiting public servants expressing views to social media. The circular issued on Tuesday by the Secretary to the Ministry M.M.P.K Mayadunne  states that public officials expressing opinions and views on social media without following the provisions under the Establishments Code will be subject to disciplinary action, according to a fresh circular issued by the state.

The circular further states that public officials who express opinions on social media without following the provisions of Sections 6 and 7, Chapter XLVII, Volume Il of the Establishments Code shall constitute an offence leading to disciplinary action.

Furthermore, state sector officers who are not entitled to the exercise of political rights, but are found to have expressed political views will also be subject to disciplinary action, the circular said.
