Excise Department interdicts officer caught drug smuggling

The Excise Department of Sri Lanka today announced that it has interdicted one of its officers arrested for drug smuggling last night by the Special Task Force (STF). The STF arrested the Excise Officer and two others with 653 grams of the drug identified as ‘Mandy’ worth over Rs. 10 Million.

Two suspects were arrested at a roadblock near the Kaluaggala Clock Tower last night while traveling in a car. The arrest was made following a tip-off received by the STF Intelligence. It was the confession of one suspect that led to STF to the Excise Officer who had provided the other suspects with the drugs to be sold. According to the STF the 31-year-old Excise Officer had been attached to the Jayawardenapura Excise Raid Unit. The suspects and drugs were handed over to the Police Narcotic Bureau for further investigations.
