A commemoration event was held on May 30 to mark 39 years since the burning of the Jaffna public library. Those gathered lit lamps to remember that tragedy that took place on May 31, 1981.

Many civil society members, politicians from various parties joined the lamp lighting commemorative event.
A large number of books collected from the people and organizations in Jaffna were also donated to the library on the day.
