Ratnapura Teaching Hospital has declared a state of emergency following the current escalation of the Covid pandemic BBC reports. The director of the hospital, Dr. Anoj Rodrigo, confirmed that all four ICU beds at the teaching hospital were full of patients. He added that work is underway to install six more intensive care beds.
The director of the hospital has told to the BBC that although normal services on other days had been reduced to some extent, Covid services were still active.
Meanwhile, the Chief Medical Officer of the Badulla Hospital Emergency Care Unit Palitha Rajapaksa had posted a note on his Facebook account stating that a state of emergency has been declared in several hospitals.
Major hospitals such as the Colombo National Hospital, Colombo North and Ragama Teaching Hospital are overcrowded and non-Covid patients have become vulnerable at risk of contracting the disease.
In this situation, the number of patients who need oxygen supply is increasing rapidly and in this situation it is dangerous to further relax the existing regulations regarding Kovid in the country, the Sri Lanka Specialists’ Association stressed yesterday (03).
