Following reports that a judge had illegally obtained electricity for his official residence, the Judicial Service Commission has reportedly suspended his services.

While serving as the Magistrate of the Mt. Lavinia Magistrate Court, Justice Kosala Senadhira had allegedly illegally acquired electricity and water from the Magistrate Court for his official residence.

Recently, Justice Minister Dr. Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe revealed in Parliament that the former Magistrate of the Mt. Lavinia Magistrate Court had illegally acquired electricity and water from the court complex. According to the Minister’s statement in Parliament, following the transfer of Justice Senadhira, the new Magistrate of Mt. Lavinia discovered that the former magistrate had illegally acquired electricity and water for his official residence.

The Justice Minister also alleged that an electrician had lost his life as a result of the illegal acquisition of electricity to the official residence of the Magistrate.

It was further revealed that Justice Senadhira’s arbitrary behavior was under scrutiny, as several President’s Counsel had complained about his conduct. According to Justice Minister Rajapakshe, a complaint had been received claiming that whiskey worth Rs. 200 million had gone missing from the court-seized goods at the Colombo Magistrate’s Court, and the incident had occurred while former Justice Senadhira was at the premises.

Minister Rajapakshe also disclosed that, according to the Government Analyst’s report, the whiskey in question had not been stolen, but rather someone had entered the room containing the whiskey using a key.

During his Parliamentary speech, the Justice Minister alleged that the Judicial Services Commission does not conduct proper investigations into such incidents and fails to initiate legal action.

However, following the Justice Minister’s statement, several parties, including individuals involved in the Judicial service, have expressed different views. Some even alleged that the Justice Minister has been using Parliamentary privileges to issue statements that lack conclusive evidence for his claims.
