Pubudu Jayagoda of the Frontline Socialist Party says that yesterday parliament passed the most repressive emergency regulations in the history of Sri Lanka.
He says harsh regulations that never existed in 1971 or 1981, or even during the war, have been incorporated in the new laws and denied the people their constitutional right of staging, strikes and other trade union action.
Pubudu Jayagoda mentions that those who go on strike are liable to be imprisoned for three years and their property confiscated.
He emphasizes that the political journey of the politicians who voted for the adoption of this bill should end abruptly, and they cannot go before the people to ask for votes any longer.
He stated this while attending a press conference held in Colombo yesterday.
