Amidst this, the recruitment of new personnel to the training department, including the appointment of Sanath Jayasuriya as an instructor, has triggered discussions. Some former sports figures, who initially rejected roles in Sri Lanka, are now seeking positions, leading to controversy and criticism.
One such individual, with a history in politics and facing various accusations, has been vocal in media interviews. Another former player, previously embroiled in match-fixing allegations during his tenure with the cricket company, is reportedly pursuing a role akin to managing the “A” team. Notably, he faced numerous criticisms while managing a junior team.
Adding to the intrigue, a less qualified coach from SSC sports club has been appointed as the assistant coach for the women’s team, sparking discussions about the selection process and qualifications.
