Cricket Authorities Face Scrutiny over the Lack of Coaching Changes

Cricket authorities have faced scrutiny over the lack of coaching changes despite the team’s performance setbacks. Head coach Silverwood’s contract is set to conclude in January, yet no alterations in coaching staff have been observed, raising questions about the team’s strategic direction.

While Silverwood enjoys a Christmas break with his family, concerns linger about the performance of assistant coaches, who, despite poor results, continue to receive salaries and bonuses. The coaching lineup’s stability, or lack thereof, comes into focus as the team faces an upcoming tour to Zimbabwe.

Amidst this, the recruitment of new personnel to the training department, including the appointment of Sanath Jayasuriya as an instructor, has triggered discussions. Some former sports figures, who initially rejected roles in Sri Lanka, are now seeking positions, leading to controversy and criticism.

One such individual, with a history in politics and facing various accusations, has been vocal in media interviews. Another former player, previously embroiled in match-fixing allegations during his tenure with the cricket company, is reportedly pursuing a role akin to managing the “A” team. Notably, he faced numerous criticisms while managing a junior team.

Adding to the intrigue, a less qualified coach from SSC sports club has been appointed as the assistant coach for the women’s team, sparking discussions about the selection process and qualifications.
