Crew member missing in Diamond shipwreck

One of the crew members of the ‘Diamond’ crude oil tanker has gone missing. The ship was sailing 50 nautical miles off the coast of Sangamankanda which caught fire this morning (03).

The other 21 survived by boarding extra boats. The ship was on its way to India from Panama. The ship was carrying 270,000 metric tons of crude oil when it caught fire.

Sri Lankan Naval vessels from the Kalmunai and Panama bases have been deployed to rescue the captain and his crew. Kalmunai Hospital is ready to treat the injured.
