Colombo uni students reject to receive graduation from Muruththetuwe Thera

The graduates of the University of Colombo today (17) refused to accept their degree from the Chancellor Ven Muruththettuwe Ananda Thera at the graduation ceremony in protest of the President’s appointment as the Chancellor of the University of Colombo.

Students participated to the convocation with wearing black ribbon in protest of the move.

The University Teachers ‘Association as well as the Students’ Union had opposed the appointment of Ven. Murutthettuwe Ananda Thero as the Chancellor of the University of Colombo.

The student unions of the University of Colombo had sent a letter to the Chancellor informing him that they were refusing to accept the graduation coffin from Ven.

As a result, the Graduation was presented by the Vice Chancellor and the Chancellor Ven. Murutthettuwe Ananda Thera graced the occasion as a special guest.

Sources said that some university lecturers also did not attend the graduation ceremony informing the Vice Chancellor of their written objection to the political appointment of the Chancellor Ananda Thera.
