Chinese flavored fertilizer criteria to be submitted to cabinet today

Reliable sources told Lankasara that the draft of the new Organic Fertilizer Criteria, prepared by the Attorney General’s Department and revised by Chinese fertilizer importer Quingdao Seawin Biotech, is due to be tabled in the Cabinet for approval today.

It was reported last Friday that the file would be submitted to the Cabinet for approval or as a proposal to the Ministry of Justice or the Ministry of Agriculture.

However, the documents related to the file were being prepared by yesterday morning and had not been included in the agenda of the cabinet meeting to be held on Friday, sources said.

However, according to cabinet tradition, three documents that are not on the cabinet agenda are likely to be submitted to the cabinet for approval, so the sources suggest that the cabinet is more likely to present that document today.

This Cabinet Paper recommends the removal of the 1704 standard for the import of solid organic matter adopted in Sri Lanka in 2013 at the request of the Chinese Fertilizer Manufacturer.

Professionals in the field have repeatedly pointed out that the change in this standard, which has pioneered the protection of the country’s flora and fauna and soil ecosystem from the most harmful microbial hazards coming from abroad, has made the entire nation irreversible. Management Disaster.

Due to this standard, Chinese fertilizer stocks are rejected due to pathogenic bacteria. Also, if this standard is changed, no lawsuit will be filed against the Chinese fertilizer consignment.

According to internal sources of the Department of Agriculture, if this document is approved by the Cabinet, the stock of fertilizer will have to be imported at a cost of US $ 70 million.
