Chinese company warns president on his vision Vistas for Splendour & Prosperity

A leading chinese construction company involves in Highways in Sri Lanka has sent an appeal to the President Gotabaya Rajapaksa demanding a fairness in awarding contract for the constructon of a segment in Central Highway Sunday Times Newspaper reports.
Since it is the lowest bidder the , MCC a fortune 500 company says the Ministry of Highways has selected a local construction consortium to construct Rambukkana to Galagedara section of the Central Expressway.

It also warns that awarding the contract to a high-priced company, regardless of the relatively low bid, could lead to public questioning of the president’s Vision “Vistas for Splendour & Prosperity”
This letter has been sent based on a bid for the construction of a section of approximately 20 km from Rambukkana to Galagedara on the Central Expressway currently under construction, according to a bid opened on October 08, 2021. A bid has been submitted by a subsidiary of MCC, a leading Chinese construction company. MCC the compnay has been involved in contructions of Colombo-Katunayake Expressway , Outer Circular Highway and currently working on the Kadawatha-Mirigama section of the Central Expressway.

The proposal was submitted as the only foreign bidder for the construction, with a bid of US $ 374 million by a local consortium, LIDC. The Chinese company has proposed an initial payment of US $ 35 million, while the local company has proposed an initial payment of US $ 62.4 million, the Chinese company said in a letter to the President.

Alleging the Ministry of Highways, the company has told the President in this letter that the Ministry of Highways has not paid any attention to the financial proposal submitted by its company.
