Two children, aged two months and one and a half months, were discovered in a residence where it is suspected that one child may have been intended for sale at a price of ten lakh rupees, while the other was priced at twenty lakh rupees. The Naula Police and the Central Provincial Probation and Child Protection Department have jointly initiated an investigation following this incident.
Investigators are looking into the possibility that these two children were to be sold to individuals, one residing in Australia and the other holding dual citizenship in both Australia and Sri Lanka.
The Department of Probation and Child Protection has confirmed that the male child is one and a half months old, while the female child is two months old.
Furthermore, it has been determined that the mothers of the two infants hail from the Theldeniya and Nikaveratiya areas. It appears that proper procedures were not followed when considering the placement of these children with the individuals in question.
As of now, the court has entrusted the care of these two children to a children’s home under the supervision of the Central Provincial Probation and Child Protection Department.
No arrests have been made in connection with this incident at this time and the investigation is ongoing.
