Speculations are accumulating over the reluctance of law enforcement sections to take stern legal action against the Shangri -La Hotel, Colombo, for accommodating a controversial birthday party of Chandimal Jayasinghe.

A sumptuous suite on the 10th floor of the Shangri-La Hotel in Colombo has been booked for the birthday of Chandimal Jayasinghe, a beautician and well-known event organizer. No police investigation or legal action has been taken yet for violating travel restrictions and quarantine laws Lankasara learns.

Chandimal Jayasinghe had booked a suite on the tenth floor of the hotel the day before yesterday and it is reported that more than 200 people had arrived from yesterday (10) to midnight.

They came from time to time for the party, which included popular figures in the field of art as well as high-ranking businessmen and their wives. They were treated to a variety of food and drink, which took place against a backdrop of strict enforcement of traffic laws, which led to the arrest of Chandimal Jayasinghe. Police arrived at the scene around midnight and some of those present had been blindfolded and released. More than 15 people were in the room and were arrested and released on police bail. On this occasion, police arrested Chandimal and actress Piyumi Jansamali and released them on bail.

According to reliable sources, Lankasara was informed that a large sum of money had been given to each birthday guest and sources say that the total hotel bill was around 5 million rupees.

Even though legal action was taken to seal off the halls and hotels that organized such events when travel restrictions were enforced, it is rumoured that no such action was taken until the moment this news was published. The managing director of Shangri-La Lanka, a Chinese company, is Sajan Mawzoon, the chairman of Pyramid Wilmar, which was recently implicated in a sugar scam.
