Cabinet Co-spokesman Cabinet Udaya Gammanpila says that the government is putting great effort to resolve the Covid 19 issue by keeping the country open as Sri Lanka does not have the economic strength to go into a lockdown in the face of the current corona epidemic.
He made this comment at the weekly cabinet press briefing held today.
“In Sri Lanka, after a lockdown of nearly two and a half months, we saw the collapse of the Sri Lankan economy. Hundreds of thousands lost their jobs. A heavily indebted country like Sri Lanka no longer has the economic strength to lock down the country. Even if we want to, it is not possible. The government is trying to solve this problem by keeping the country open. Learning to live with the coronavirus is a challenge we face today.
“IDH is the only hospital that has Covid patients alone. But no doctor or health workers there contracted Covid. That shows if we take the necessary precautions we can even not get infected with Covid in a place that has many Covid patients. Therefore, we have to keep the country as open in the face of the current situation and move on with our lives, ” Cabinet Spokesman Udaya Gammanpila said.
