Beloved Singer, Chandrakumara Kandanarachchi Passes Away

It is with deep sadness that we mourn the passing of Chandrakumara Kandanarachchi, a beloved singer whose enchanting voice has captivated the hearts of music lovers for five decades. He breathed his last this morning (26).

Throughout his illustrious career, Kandanarachchi gifted his fans with numerous timeless songs, including “Aage Sinahawa Thahanam”, “Pem Banda Sith Banda,” “Ganga Nadi Theeraye”, “Gama Mahanuwarai,” and “Hithe Sathuta Jeewithe”. Among these, “Aage Sinahawa Thahanam,” written by KDK Dharmavardhanyan in 1973 and composed by Kandanarachchi himself, stands as an enduring masterpiece that continues to resonate with lovers across generations.

His rich and melodious voice, coupled with his charismatic stage presence, ensured that Kandanarachchi’s songs would etch a permanent place in the hearts of his listeners. Despite the passage of time, his music remains as popular as ever, a testament to his talent and enduring appeal.

In recent times, Kandanarachchi had been undergoing treatment at the Maharagama Cancer Hospital. He was 76 years old at the time of his passing.
