A Truck driver shot dead in front of Minister’s house in Batticaloa

A sand tipper driver, has been shot dead in front of State Minister S. Viyalendran’s house in Batticaloa this afternoon, police spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said.
The shooting took place in the Sinnavurni area in Batticaloa at around 5:10 this evening, he said.
The police spokesman said that the shooting had been carried out by a police constable who was guarding the house. According to him, a heated argument had taken place between the succumbed sand tipper driver and the Policeman a few days ago and as a result, the driver of the sand tipper had been shot by a police officer while traveling in a three-wheeler today.
The body of the deceased has been kept at the Batticaloa Hospital and the relevant police officer has been arrested with his firearm, said Ajith Rohana.
It is reported that the Minister of State was not at home at the time of the incident.
Ajith Rohana further stated that a full investigation is being carried out on the orders of the Batticaloa SSP.
