Azath Salley gives a statement to Police

Five member CID team begins investigations

Former Western provincial governor Azath Salley has summoned to Cinnamon Gardens Police and has been recorded his statement last night Police sources said.

Meanwhile five-member team of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) headed by an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) has been appointed to inquire into the controversial statement made by Mr. Azath Salley.

This step has taken following a complaint lodged by 03 JNP parliamentarians yesterday.

Recently, Salley had allegedly said that he does not respect the law of the land but only respects and welcomes the Muslim law.
Earlier, Public Security Minister Sarath Weerasekara said Salley should be arrested for making such a statement. He also said he has informed the CID to look into the matter.
