Audit Reveals Sri Lankan Airlines Pays Millions for Decommissioned Aircraft

According to a report by the National Audit Office, Sri Lankan Airlines has paid a substantial sum of 5,646.76 million rupees as rent for eight decommissioned aircraft. Despite the airline’s requirement of 27 aircraft, it currently operates with only 24, as of April 20th, 2023.

The audit report highlights that these eight decommissioned aircraft were rendered inoperable due to engine faults, severely impacting the airline’s flight planning. Presently, Sri Lankan Airlines operates with 18 functional aircraft, causing significant disruptions to its operations.
