Investigations Requested on Allegations of Corruption, Theft, and Mismanagement Against Dalada Maligawa Diyawadana Nilame

A social activist has filed a complaint with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) today (08) regarding numerous allegations against Pradeep Nilanga Dala  , the long-serving lay custodian of the Sri Dalada Maligawa (Temple of the Sacred Tooth). These allegations include the disappearance of 28 gold statues, the theft of 38 kilograms of gold, the illegal sale of prime land belonging to the temple, the kidnapping of two elephants, and numerous other criminal activities.

Pradeep Nilanga Dala

Pradeep Nilanga, who has held the position for nearly two decades, is accused of being involved in a series of corrupt actions, including the sale of valuable land and theft of temple property. The complaint also mentions the disappearance of two elephants during his tenure and the illegal exploitation of animals.

The activist, Shashika Disanayake, stated that Nilanga was also accused of selling precious items from Dalada Maligawa, including a golden statue of Buddha, to Japan. Further, it has been alleged that the official engaged in various other corrupt activities that were documented in a book written by a university professor, revealing a range of fraudulent acts committed within the temple.
