The Police have been directed to take similar action if a company also attempts to lodge a complaint after illegally repossessing a vehicle.

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa on Friday directed the Police to prevent all illegal activities being carried out by the companies including repossessing of assets for defaulting on payments during the relief period declared by the government.

The Police now must check all claims prior to accepting complaints from leasing companies regarding repossessing of vehicles. The Police has also been directed to not accept complaints made by leasing companies on defaulting of payments during the relief period provided by the government.

The orders come after Sunil Jayawardana (53) the Chairman of the Self Employed Three-Wheeler Operators Association was brutally attacked by representatives of an unauthorized leasing company in Mirihana recently.
