20 million cash distributed father and two were arrested in Jaffna

Three persons including an elderly father who were distributing 20 million rupees among Jaffna people have been arrested by Nelliadai Police allegedly violating the quarantine rules yesterday (06).

A son in an overseas country has sent Rs. 20 million to his father and asked him to give Rs. 2,000 each to the needy families.

When the elderly father started distributing the money along with two other members of the family from their house more than 2,000 people who heard the news had come and created a long queue outside their home.

Some people of those who had arrived were not even wearing masks and the elderly father and two relatives were arrested and taken to the police station on the charge of gathering a large number of people in one place in violation of the quarantine rules at a time when the curfew was in effect.

At that time, about 500 persons had received Rs. 2,000 each and the rest had been warned by the police and chased away.
