The Director of Education said that the decision was taken due to the fact that some of the students in those schools became infected with Covid.

Of the schools that have been closed, 135 are in the Jaffna district and five are in the Vavuniya district.

Although there is a risk of the Covid epidemic in the Jaffna and Vavuniya districts, 395 schools are functioning in the Northern Province and a number of steps have been taken to maintain regular contact with the health and security forces to relocate schools, the Northern Provincial Director of Education said.
