The Welisara Navy Camp will be opened today after a lengthy quarantine period of nearly 60 days. However, the camp will only open up in stages according to the Sri Lanka Navy.
Director-General of Health Services Dr Anil Jasinghe gave the Navy the go-ahead last week to open the camp by declaring it Covid 19 free in a letter handed over to the Navy Commander.
The Navy will be able to open all parts of the camp for regular duties except for its hospital.
The largest Covid 19 cluster was reported from the Sri Lanka Navy after its first patient was discovered on April 22. The camp was put into lockdown on April 27. The largest cluster of coronavirus cases in the country was reported from the base.
