Galle Face Green activists were cleared of any misdemeanour relating to money.

The Criminal Investigation Department has confirmed that the three active members of the Goal Face struggle, Rathindu Senaratne (Ratta), Dilan Senanayake and Avishka Viraj Konara, have been cleared of suspicion that they received money from overseas sources as suspected.

The Criminal Investigation Department has already informed the Inspector General of Police. The Inspector General of Police has also communicated with the Defense Ministry before clearing them.

At the outset, the  Ministry of Defense informed the police to initiate an inquiry into the matter and investigate to ascertain whether the three activists received funds to their bank accounts amounting to one and a half million rupees each.
The investigation was a sequel to information that went viral on social media.
Accordingly, the Inspector General of Police has informed the Deputy Inspector General of the Criminal Investigation Department to inquire whether there was any substance in the information shared by social media groups.
The IGP was directed to investigate how they received the money.
According to information shared on social media, these three activists have received the money in their bank account they recently opened at a Bank of Ceylon branch located at Union Place, Colombo.
The social media network said that all three of them travelled in the same car to the bank for transactions and behaved in an unruly manner.
The officers of the Criminal Investigation Department visited the relevant bank to checke whether these activists are account holders of the said bank.
The investigation has revealed that none of them maintains accounts in these banks at any given time or withdrew money from any other account.
The Central Intelligence Unit of the Central Bank Has also confirmed that no such money was remitted to their accounts through a foreign source.
Accordingly,  the Criminal Investigation Department briefed the Inspector General of Police and later decided to drop all inquiries relating to the matter.
The Inspector General of Police has also taken steps to inform the Ministry of Defense about the investigation and its status.
