Litro Chairman pledges to eliminate gas shortage before August

Muditha Peiris, President of Litro Gas Company pledges that the current gas shortage in the country will be completely eliminated by July 31.

The chairman also said that a stock of 3759 metric tons of gas has already started to be unloaded at the Kelawarapitiya yard.
He said that since there is already a contract to bring a gas stock of 33000 metric tons of gas, it will be possible to distribute gas without shortage until the end of next October.

He said that a ship of 3200 metric tons to be arrived on the 16th and another ship of 20000 metric tons of gas is currently approaching the Maldivian sea.

He also said that 4 more ships to arrive Kerawalapitiya from the 20th.

After 12 noon today, between 20,000- 30,000 cylinders will be distributed to the Colombo area and the amount will be increased to one hundred and twenty thousand from tomorrow, the Chairman said.

Thus, eighty thousand 12.5 kg cylinders, twenty thousand 5 kg cylinders and 20000 2.3 kg cylinders will be released to the market tomorrow in Colombo.

The price of the gas cylinders issued is as follows.

The price of a 2.3 kg cylinder is 914 rupees. The price of a 5 kg cylinder is 1971 rupees. Thus, subject to a price increase of 50 rupees, the price of a 12.5 kg gas cylinder has been fixed at 4910 rupees.
