ICC today announced that it has suspended scheduled matches to qualify 2021 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup, which are to held in Zimbabwe due to the South African new variant of Covid Omicron
Sri Lanka’s women’s Cricket team also were preparing to take part the matches scheduled to be held in Harare but it will be halted due to the introduction of new travel restrictions in a number of African countries, including Zimbabwe, which is at risk .Hence Sri Lankan women cricket team has to loose their dreams to be the world champs.

The ICC has made the decision ahead of the preliminary league stage of the tournament to decide the final three teams to qualify for the 2022 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup in New Zealand.

Following the cancellation of the tournament, the top three teams in the world team rankings were named as qualifying teams for the World Cup finals, as described in the terms of the tournament.

Bangladesh, Pakistan and the West Indies, who were ranked higher than Sri Lanka, will now advance to the finals to be held in New Zealand.

Two of the three matches scheduled for Saturday in the tournament were played between Zimbabwe and Pakistan, the United States and Thailand, but the third match between the West Indies and Sri Lanka was not played. The reason for this is that a group of Sri Lankan players were infected with Kovid.

ICC event chief Chris Tettley said: “It is incredibly regrettable that this event had to be canceled, but with the imposition of travel restrictions on a number of African countries, there is a serious risk that the teams will not be able to return.

“We have focused on a number of options to allow this event to be completed. But neither can be done. We need to get the teams out of Zimbabwe as soon as possible. Accordingly, Bangladesh, Pakistan and the West Indies will qualify for the 2022 ICC Women’s World Cup according to their rankings.

The teams that have qualified for the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup to be held in New Zealand from March 4 to April 3, 2022 are Australia, England, India, South Africa, New Zealand (host), Pakistan, West Indies and Bangladesh.

The Sri Lanka women’s cricket team is currently facing a major
crisis due to travel restrictions and the confirmation that three members of the team and one of the staff have been infected with Kovid.

From today, Sri Lanka has imposed travel restrictions on six countries, including Zimbabwe.
