Kinniya mourns today for the lives taken away with ferry accident

People in Kinniya have declared a day of mourning today (25). Civil society groups have decided to close shops in Kenya and school teachers and children also were mourning without not presenting to schools over the lives of died people with the ferry accident on Monday.

Six people, including the four children who lost their lives in the capsized ferry in the Kurinchakarni area in the Kinniya Lagoon in Trincomalee.

“Now options are coming up. After paying with six lives, a SLTB bus was sent to the village. People rejected it. They demanded a permanent solution. However, the Navy said that a boat service would be launched across the lagoon from today (25). The Navy said that a boat carrying only 20 passengers will be deployed for this purpose.

Meanwhile, the owner of the bridge ferry and three others arrested in connection with the incident have been remanded until the 8th of next month. They were produced before the Trincomalee Chief Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
