Namal Kumara, former Police informant and self-styled Director (Operations) of the Anti-Corruption Force has been seen attending political meetings of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) after his release from remand prison last week.

Photographs on social media have been posted showing the controversial figure attending several meetings in support of candidate Rushan Malinda, contesting from the Ampara district under the SLPP banner. Accordingly, Namal Kumara had attended and addressed meetings in Uhana, Dehiattakandiya, and Ampara.

In 2018 Namal Kumara made shocking revelations regarding alleged assassination plots to kill several prominent figures in the country including former President Maithripala Sirisena and Gotabaya Rajapaksa. In 2018 October Sirisena justified the Constitutional coup based on claims made by Namal Kumara. However, investigations later proved the allegations made by Namal Kumara were baseless.
