Much awaited amendment to Consumer Affairs Authority act which allows imposition of a fine of 100,000 Rupees for the persons who are selling rice beyond controlled price has been gazetted according to the Trade Minister Bandula Gunawardena.
The relevant gazette notification has been issued, the Minister said.
He further said that meanwhile Letters of credit have been issued for the importation and storage of rice to maintain safe stocks of rice in the event of an artificial shortage of rice by traders.
He was speaking at a press conference held at the Information Department today.
