A fatal bus accident at the Weerawila Thurusewana junction on the Ambalantota–Kataragama main road has claimed the lives of four people and injured around 40 others, police said.
The accident occurred when two Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) buses collided head-on. One bus was operating from Colombo to Kataragama, while the other was traveling from Tissamaharama to Karapitiya.
According to police, the impact of the collision caused significant damage to both buses, leading to multiple casualties at the scene.
Emergency services were quickly deployed, and steps are currently being taken to admit the injured to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Police have launched an investigation into the cause of the accident.
