Former Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera has acknowledged the key contributors behind the development of Sri Lanka’s National Fuel Pass QR-based quota system. which was revisited amidst Middle East crisis.
In a note shared on X (formerly Twitter), Wijesekera said that if credit is to be given for developing the QR-based fuel management platform, it should go to Jayantha De Silva and his team at the Information and Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka, Supun Weerasinghe and his team at Dialog Axiata PLC, and Shevan Goonathilake and his team at MillenniumIT ESP.
He noted that the teams developed the platform within two weeks of their first meeting and successfully rolled it out nationwide within a month, at no cost to the government.
Wijesekera further stated that the implementation of the system was made possible with the assistance and dedication of many other stakeholders.
The National Fuel Pass QR system was introduced to regulate fuel distribution and manage demand during Sri Lanka’s fuel shortages, allowing vehicle owners to receive fuel quotas through a QR-based verification process.
