Former Ministry Secretary and Director General of Telecommunication Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL) Anusha Palpita was arrested yesterday by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) in connection with an investigation into his alleged failure to disclose the source of income amounting to Rs. 46 million.
Palpita appeared before the Bribery Commission on Thursday (23), where his initial statement was recorded. The Commission subsequently proceeded to arrest him as part of the ongoing inquiry.
He was produced before Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama today, and the magistrate ordered him remanded until February 6.
The Bribery Commission produced the suspect before the court in connection with the case. The Bribery Commission requested that the court remand the suspect further, as it has not yet obtained statements from the suspect’s wife and her brother in relation to the case.
Accordingly, the court ordered that the suspect be remanded until February 6. The Magistrate also instructed the Bribery Commission to complete the investigation and submit a progress report to the court.
