Microsoft’s AI Chief Meets Sri Lanka Envoy In Chennai on Tech Cooperation

Director of Data and AI at Microsoft, Mr. Cecil Sunder, met with the Deputy High Commissioner of Sri Lanka for Southern India, Mr. Ganesanathan Geathiswaran, at the Deputy High Commission on January 13, 2026.

The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation between Sri Lanka and Microsoft, especially in the areas of data analytics and artificial intelligence. Both sides discussed possible collaboration in education, skills development, and technology-based solutions to support Sri Lanka’s national development goals.

Special attention was given to revising AI-related curricula and introducing structured AI skills programmes. These initiatives aim to build digital capacity among students, teachers, and young professionals, and to improve employability while promoting inclusive regional development in Sri Lanka.

Mr. Sunder also expressed his intention to visit Sri Lanka in the near future to further explore these collaborative efforts.
