Dr. Sir Don Buddhika Sri Ranga Kumara Vittahachchi, a highly respected practitioner of acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine, has achieved a significant milestone in his professional journey with the successful completion of his Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Acupuncture from Azteca University of North America. He officially received his Ph.D. on 26th November 2025 from Professor Dr. Ricardo Saavedra Hidalgo, Director-Chair of International Programs at Azteca University. Dr. Vittahachchi’s doctoral research explored a specialised and original topic within acupuncture and integrative medicine, focusing on the gut–brain axis, the vital communication link between the digestive system and the brain. His findings highlight how disturbances in gut health can influence emotional well-being, stress levels, mental clarity, and overall digestive stability. Through clinical analysis, he demonstrated how acupuncture can regulate this pathway by reducing stress, improving digestion, and enhancing physiological balance. His research offers a valuable contribution to the modern understanding of acupuncture’s role in both physical and psychological wellness.

With over 25 years of clinical experience, Dr. Vittahachchi is the Director and Founder of Buddhika Vittahachchi Hospital (Pvt) Ltd (38/1, Wattegedara Rd, Maharagama), a well-established private clinic offering specialised acupuncture, Traditional Chinese Medicine, and Aesthetic Medicine treatments. Renowned for his patient-centred approach and highly effective therapeutic strategies, he continues to serve as a leading figure in the field. From 2000 to 2010, he served as an Acupuncture Doctor at the Colombo South Government General Hospital, Kalubowila (Acupuncture Clinic), contributing significantly to patient care and the development of integrative treatment services within the government sector.

Dr. Vittahachchi’s professional accomplishments have been recognised both locally and internationally through several distinguished awards. These include the National Award from the International World Record of Asia for his outstanding contributions to acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine. He is also the recipient of the Pride of Nation Award – Certificate of Achievement (2025) for global excellence in acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine, along with the Sri Lanka Iconic Award (2025) for Best Skin Aesthetic and Acupuncture Treatment. In further recognition of his service to healthcare, Dr. Sir Buddhika Vittahachchi ([email protected]) was honoured with the prestigious Knight Rank (2025) by the Knights of St. John of Jerusalem, receiving full honours and privileges bestowed by the order. Today, Dr. Sir Buddhika Vittahachchi remains committed to advancing acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine in Sri Lanka, continuing his mission of excellence in patient care, research, and clinical practice.
