The Sri Lanka Air force pilot who was killed in a crash today (15) in Kantale has been identified as 23 year old Trainee Officer Cadet Shalinda Amarakoon, a resident of Ruwanwella, Mapitiya. The Air Force in release said the P-T6 trainer aircraft had taken off from the SLAF training academy from China Bay and crashed near the Janaranjana tank in Kantale around 1.15pm. The trainee officer cadet had been on a solo training session.

He had been airlifted to the Trincomalee hospital but had succumbed to his injuries sustained in the crash. A board of investigation has been appointed on the directives of the Air Force Commander.

Amarakoon had joined the SLAF in January 2019. He was a past pupil of Kegalle Maha Vidyalaya.
