The Colombo High Court has scheduled the hearing of the case filed by the Bribery Commission against former Minister Mervyn Silva, who is accused of illegally acquiring assets and property during his tenure as a Minister.
High Court Judge Mohamed Mihal ordered that the trial will commence on November 17.
When the case was taken up on September 24, the Bribery Commission submitted several documents related to the case to the defense and requested the court to fix a date for the hearing.
Accepting the request, the judge set the hearing for November 17.
The Bribery Commission has filed this case under the Anti-Corruption Act, alleging that Silva unlawfully acquired assets and property worth nearly Rs. 150 million—an amount exceeding his legal income—between 2010 and 2012 while serving as a Minister.
