More than 22,000 employees of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) have been given the opportunity to select their preferred company following the restructuring of the CEB under the newly enacted Electricity Act.
Chairman of the CEB, Prof. Udayanga Hemapala, announced that workers would have a two-month window, effective from today, to choose among the four newly established entities:
National System Operator (Pvt) Ltd
National Transmission Network Service Provider (Pvt) Ltd
Electricity Distribution Lanka (Pvt) Ltd
Electricity Generation Lanka (Pvt) Ltd
According to the Ministry of Energy, the companies will remain fully state-owned. Employees who do not wish to be absorbed into the new entities will be eligible for retirement with a compensation package.
The Ministry also confirmed that senior management roles in the new institutions will primarily be filled by engineers currently serving in top positions within the CEB.
