A fight erupted on an AirAsia flight from Kuala Lumpur to Chengdu when a group of women allegedly refused to lower their voices after the cabin lights were dimmed. The incident occurred on Monday aboard an Airbus A320, which left Kuala Lumpur International Airport at 6.11pm and arrived at Chengdu Tianfu International Airport at 10.13pm, according to the Daily Mail.
Trouble started when a man sitting behind the group asked them to quiet down. The situation escalated after he reportedly called them “stupid” and told them to “shut up.” Video footage captured a woman wearing a green outfit and a baseball cap leaning over her seat to repeatedly punch the man, who tried to protect himself using his tray table.
A passenger who filmed the altercation said the fight broke out halfway through the four-hour journey after the women ignored repeated requests to keep their voices down. The passenger also stated that one woman’s mother joined in, and two women physically assaulted the man, criticising the cabin crew for failing to calm the situation earlier.
Although flight attendants later intervened to diffuse tensions, Chinese police officers were waiting upon arrival to question those involved. Authorities from the Sichuan Provincial Public Security Department have launched an investigation, but it is not yet known if any arrests have been made.
