Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs Ananda Wijepala reiterated today that former Eastern Province Chief Minister Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan, alias Pillayan, had prior knowledge of the Easter Sunday attacks. He said that the facts related to this will be reported to the court, and the prosecution will proceed accordingly.
Speaking in Kurunegala, the Minister stated that further investigations will be conducted at the court’s and the Attorney General’s instruction, following the reporting of relevant facts.
“I specifically mentioned during the recent parliamentary debate on the Easter Sunday attacks that Pillayan had prior knowledge of the attacks. As stated previously, we are ready to report these facts to the court shortly. After reporting them, further investigations will be conducted under the court’s and the Attorney General’s directives.
Investigations are already underway. At this time, it is necessary to report the facts already uncovered to the court. However, we cannot reveal certain details of these investigations to the media,” the Minister added.
